HSE Officer – Renewable Energy (Solar PV + BESS)





Location: Rietfontein/Upington, Northern Cape, South Africa

Duration: Initial 5 Months, starting July/Aug 2025

Sector: Renewable Energy : Solar PV & Battery Energy Storage



We are recruiting a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Officer for a leading client in South Africa for a 5-month contract within the renewable energy sector. Based in Rietfontein/Upington, Northern Cape, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing HSE compliance and management across the construction and commissioning of a hybrid energy facility.



 Project Scope Includes:




  • 33kV Eskom switching station

  • 33kV Overhead Transmission Line

  • 6.1MWh / 1.54MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

  • 2.76MWp Solar PV Plant



Key Responsibilities:




  • Implement and monitor HSE procedures and ensure full site compliance

  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and regular site inspections

  • Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards and risks

  • Maintain accurate incident records and ensure proper reporting protocols

  • Liaise with contractors and internal stakeholders on safety standards and expectations



Requirements:




  • SAMTRAC or equivalent HSE qualification

  • First Aid Level 1 (minimum)

  • SACPCMP registration

  • Demonstrated experience in managing HSE on solar or energy-related construction sites



Additional Info:




  • Candidates must be based in South Africa and able to mobilise to the Northern Cape

  • Competitive daily/hourly rate offered, depending on experience
