senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of data center projects, from conceptual design to final delivery. This role ensures that data centers are designed, engineered, and constructed to meet performance, reliability, scalability, and efficiency standards while aligning with business objectives and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data center architecture, engineering, construction management, and stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Center Design & Engineering:
Lead the design and engineering of new and existing data center facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards (Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, BICSI, LEED, etc.).
Oversee architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) designs, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
Drive innovation in data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling solutions (liquid/immersion cooling, free cooling), and modular designs.
Ensure scalability, redundancy, and fault tolerance in all designs.
2. Project Delivery & Construction Management:
Manage the full project lifecycle of data center construction, from site selection and feasibility studies to commissioning and handover.
Collaborate with real estate, procurement, legal, and operations teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Oversee contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure adherence to design specifications, safety regulations, and contractual obligations.
Implement robust project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) to track progress, mitigate risks, and resolve issues.
3. Technical Strategy & Innovation:
Define and implement best practices for data center design, energy efficiency (PUE, WUE optimization), and sustainability (renewable energy integration, carbon footprint reduction).
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies (AI-driven DCIM, lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, prefabricated modular solutions) to enhance performance and cost efficiency.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and cybersecurity requirements.
4. Budget & Resource Management:
Develop and manage budgets for design, engineering, and construction, optimizing both capital (CapEx) and operational (OpEx) expenditures.
Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, project managers, and contractors, fostering collaboration and high performance.
Provide regular financial and progress reports to senior leadership.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Risk Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for executive leadership, clients, and external partners on all data center design and delivery matters.
Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for technical, logistical, and financial challenges.
Present strategic recommendations, cost-benefit analyses, and post-project reviews to stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience:
12+ years in data center design, engineering, and construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing large-scale projects.
Proven track record of delivering hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data centers on time and within budget.
Technical Skills:
Deep expertise in data center power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear), cooling (CRAC, chillers, adiabatic cooling), and network infrastructure.
Proficiency in CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit), DCIM software, and CFD modeling.
Familiarity with prefabricated/modular data center solutions and edge computing infrastructure.
